Last call for Oahu residents to make their mark (literally) at State Capitol

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The public is invited to make their mark, literally, at one of Hawaii’s most famous landmarks.
The State Capitol’s $10 million Waterless Pool Project is ready for some splashes of color.
Artist Solomon Enos is creating a wave pattern on heavy glass tiles to replace the twin pools that the state deemed too difficult to maintain.
“This is going to be one of probably the most largest art installations in Hawaii’s contemporary history,” said Enos. “Folks will be able to return to it 50 years from now and the marks that they made here today will be a big part of a visual representation of community.”
Residents are encouraged to add a dot of paint to the mural, “like a drop of water to an ocean,” said Enos.
The project will be the open on the ground floor of Capitol Modern, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through the end of the November.
However, the building will be closed on Nov. 28 in observance of Thanksgiving.
The project is expected to open by the Fall of 2026.
